$14.5M CRST Expedited minimum wage class action settlement

CRST Expedited agreed to pay $14.5 million as part of a class action settlement to resolve claims it violated California labor laws by failing to pay truck drivers minimum wage and other compensation.

The CRST Expedited settlement benefits current and former California truck drivers who were compensated on a piece-rate basis by CRST Expedited between Aug. 9, 2017, and April 10, 2023.

The class action settlement also benefits the same group of truck drivers who were compensated on a piece-rate basis by CRST Expedited between Aug. 9, 2020, and April 10, 2023. This group is eligible for payments under the California Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).

According to a minimum wage lawsuit, CRST Expedited compensates its drivers on a piece-rate basis, which results in violations of California labor laws. CRST Expedited allegedly violates California labor laws by failing to pay drivers the minimum wage, compensate them for all miles driven, reimburse business expenses, provide accurate wage statements and pay wages on time.

CRST Expedited is a national trucking company that touts itself as one of the largest privately held transportation companies in the nation.

CRST Expedited has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve these allegations with a $14.5 million class action settlement.

Under the terms of the CRST Expedited settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of qualifying workweeks they worked during the class period. Class members who worked a higher number of qualifying workweeks will receive a larger share of the net settlement fund. Exact payments will vary.

PAGA group members will receive a proportional share of the $181,250 allocated for PAGA payments. Like regular class payments, PAGA payments will be based on the number of qualifying pay periods each class member worked during the class period.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 5, 2026.
