What Is a Claim ID and PIN?

A Claim ID and PIN are codes printed on your settlement notice that link your claim to the administrator's records.

A Claim ID and PIN are unique codes the settlement administrator assigns to people identified as likely class members. They appear on mailed or emailed notices and let you file a claim that is matched to the defendant's records about you.

Why it matters when you file a claim

Entering a Claim ID often makes filing faster and can make your claim easier to approve, because the administrator already has data showing you're in the class. In some settlements, it pre-fills your information or confirms your eligibility for a particular payment tier. Different settlements use different names, such as Unique ID, Notice ID or Class Member ID.

Where to find it

  • ✓On a postcard notice, often near your mailing address.
  • ✓In the body of an email notice from the administrator.
  • ✓By contacting the administrator, who may be able to look it up after verifying your identity.
No code doesn't mean no claim

Many settlements let you file without a Claim ID if you meet the class definition. You may simply need to provide more information or proof. Check the settlement website's FAQ.

A simple example

You receive a postcard about a data breach settlement with a Claim ID and PIN printed on it. On the official website, you enter both, and the form shows that your records were part of the breach. You choose your benefits, sign and submit. A neighbor who was also affected but threw away the postcard can still file, but has to enter more details by hand.

Spotting fake notices

Scammers sometimes send messages that mimic settlement notices and ask you to enter a code on a lookalike website. To be safe, check that the settlement website matches the one listed in court documents or on a trusted source, and type the address yourself rather than tapping a link. A real Claim ID will never be paired with a request for fees, gift cards or your full card number.

How it relates to other terms

The codes are issued by the settlement administrator and used on the claim form. For step-by-step help, see how to find your class action claim ID.

Keep any notices you receive, and use SettleScout to track the settlements they belong to, so you know when each claim is due.
